There is a very exciting addition to the neo-classical movement that’s emerging in Europe at the moment. After Nils Frahm, Ólafur Arnalds and Joep Beving, Hania Rani is a fresh newcomer to the scene. Layer by layer, Rani creates hypnotic classical music that builds up to a classical climax at the end of the song, when all the layers are interwoven.
Long Tall Jefferson
Awarded as one of Switzerland’s best emerging artists, Long Tall Jefferson’s songs about scenarios in everyday life feel all too familiar to his European audience. They played two songs for us in Groningen: the first is called Modern Art Museum and is about how he — while strolling pompously in a museum — becomes fascinated by a women who seems to inconspicuously inspect him instead of the artworks. When she finally does walk in his direction, time stops… Until she walks passed him to another guy.
The second song Stay A Little Longer, seen below, is about friendship that grows into a complicated romance. Who can't relate?
