European Identity Through Architecture
Is there a European identity? We can find it through architecture.
Sixteen architecture studios in sixteen different European cities, from London to Lisbon, from Bucharest to Trondheim, reflect on this question. The debate began at the 2014 La Biennale di Venezia, with the exhibition Made in Europe, celebrating the 25 years of the EU Prize for Contemporary Architecture - Mies van der Rohe Award. And it's still ongoing, as we here at AWE have rediscovered these great videos.
The question does not have a single answer, but rather generates an ongoing reflection about what Europe is, what unites us and what makes us different. All the studios interviewed have been involved in the Prize as nominees, finalists, winners or emerging architects. The video project was supported by Creative Europe and carried out by the Mies van der Rohe Foundation.
